About VCU's energy conservation initiative
VCU’s Energy Conservation Initiative is a two-pronged approach. First is to reduce energy consumption in our facilities through conservation-focused maintenance, improvements and smart technology. Second, is to reduce energy consumption by encouraging sustainable behavior.
In Fiscal Year 2019, VCU saved more than $800,000 on energy and utility bills through thoughtful planning and design, renovations focused on sustainability, and maintenance projects like low-flow faucet installation, LED lights and duct-sealing. This kind of savings can be reinvested into new energy conservation projects to help VCU save on energy and utilities now and into the future. Every bit is ultimately savings that can be passed onto our students. Energy conservation also models the highest standard of sustainability.
